Basic Fees and Copy Policy Illinois State Archives
Research in the Illinois State Archives Reference Room and Microfilm Reading Room may be conducted at no charge. Fees will be accessed for copies, certifications, and other services provided.
Archives staff will determine how or if original records may be copied due to age and fragility. Materials deemed too fragile will not be scanned or copied.
Researchers are permitted to take photographs of documents with a camera or cell phone at no charge. Small scanners without document feeders are permissible at the discretion of Archives staff.
Due to staff limitations, large reproduction requests may not be filled immediately and may only be provided as physical copies.
Illinois State Archives fees are set pursuant to 15 ILCS 305/5.5.

Non-Illinois Resident Research Fee Policy
The Illinois State Archives is required to receive, from all out-of-state or non-Illinois residents, a $10 fee, prepaid and nonrefundable, along with all research requests before those requests may be honored. The fee will entitle the requester to up to 2 unofficial, non-certified copies of the records requested if those records exist.

The Archives also accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express credit cards. A payment processor fee will be applied to credit card payments.
