We have encountered a small number of defective license plates in which the protective coating is bubbling around the digits. The Secretary of State’s office has issued a press release notifying customers that license plates exhibiting this defect will be replaced by the manufacturer at no charge to the consumer.
License plates made on aluminum (plates made since March 1, 2004) do not have a defect and are not qualified for a free replacement under the manufacturer’s warranty program.
If you have one or more defective license plates, air pockets forming
around the digits or peeling of the clear protective coating, please leave the defective plates on the vehicle and complete the form below.
A new set of license plates will be ordered reflecting the same license plate number(s) and mailed to you in approximately 45 days from receipt of the defective license plate contact form. A registration sticker will be sent with the new license plates, provided that the license plates’ registration is current.
