Address Change
By law, motorists must notify the Secretary of State's Office when an address changes (IL Vehicle Code, Section 3-416, 6-116 and 6-511). This will ensure that you receive your renewal notices or other correspondence at the appropriate address.
Your Driver's License/Identification Card file and your vehicle registration file can be updated by either visiting a Driver Services facility, or by following the links at the bottom of the page to update your new address to your DL or ID file. You must fill in all pertinent information, including your DL number and/or ID card number and information on every vehicle that is registered in your name.
If you wish to change your address and receive a corrected Driver's License / Identification Card, you must visit a Driver Services facility. You will be required to bring 2 acceptable documents with your new complete name and address on them. The documents to bring with you are listed in the chart Acceptable Identification.
Name changes cannot be processed online. If your name has changed, you MUST obtain a corrected driver's license, corrected title and corrected registration ID card before our records can be updated. Visit your nearest Driver Services facility and come prepared with proper documentation from the Acceptable Identification chart. Fees will be required for all corrected documents.
A commercial driver's license (CDL) holder must obtain a corrected driver's license within 30 days of any change in address or name.
