By law, motorists must notify the Secretary of State's Office when an address changes (IL Vehicle Code, Section 3-416, 6-116 and 6-511). This will ensure that you receive your renewal notices or other correspondence at the appropriate address.

Your Driver's License/Identification Card file and your vehicle registration file will be updated. You must fill in all pertinent information, including your DL number and/or ID card number and information on every vehicle that is registered in your name.
If you wish to update your actual Driver's License / Identification Card, you must visit a Driver Services facility.
Name changes cannot be processed online. If your name has changed, you MUST obtain a corrected driver's license, corrected title and corrected registration ID card before our records can be updated. Visit your nearest Driver Services facility and come prepared with proper documentation. Fees will be required for all corrected documents.
A commercial driver's license (CDL) holder must obtain a corrected driver's license within 30 days of any change in address or name.
